Le Choix d’Erwan #3 – Syd Matters – Reveille – Bertrand Belin Syd MattersPour changer, une sélection 100% française aujourd’hui, en commençant par Syd Matters (site officiel) qui revient avec Brotherocean, son quatrième album. Comme ça fait plaisir de suivre la carrière impeccable de ce talentueux frenchie que j’avais découvert à ses débuts avec son premier EP, la fabuleuse chanson « Black & White Eyes » et sa victoire au premier concours CQFD des Inrocks. Depuis cette époque la musique de Jonathan Morali a doucement évolué, tout en restant dans cette veine mêlant folk et électro, et surtout en étant constant dans l’excellence. « I Might Float » dit un titre de l’album: oui, et très au-dessus de la mêlée. PS: j’aime la flûte, et vous? (mp3)Autre artiste que je suis depuis ses débuts, le lyonnais François Virot, qui n’est pas facile à suivre! En solo sous son nom, en trio avec Clara Clara, c’est en duo qu’on le retrouve chez Reveille (MySpace). Le son est à la croisée des deux autres projets, entre le folk acoustique en solo et le rock noisy de Clara Clara. Ma préférence pour son côté folk fait que j’aime surtout la fin de la face A, mais ceux qui aiment le rock un peu plus bruyant trouveront de quoi faire sur les autres titres (face A car le disque n’est sorti qu’en vinyle, chez l’excellent label français Clapping Music). « I’m Yours » donne une bonne idée de ce que l’on peut entendre sur l’album, en écoute sur Bandcamp.Il aurait été dommage de finir cette sélection française sans chanson francophone: mon choix se portera donc sur le premier extrait du nouvel album de Bertrand Belin, qui vient tout juste de sortir. Je n’ai pas encore eu l’occasion de l’écouter, mais je sais déjà que Hypernuit sera sans doute mon album francophone de l’année. Et par album francophone de l’année je ne veux pas dire mon préféré, mais le seul que j’achèterai, car rares sont les artistes francophones à trouver grâce à mes oreilles calibrées à la langue anglaise. Pour ce qui est du titre en écoute, je vous laisse l’apprécier et lire ce que Garrincha en dit ici; après un tel texte il est inutile d’en rajouter. Solo under his own name, in a trio with Clara Clara and finally in a duet with Reveille (MySpace). Their sound borrows to both Virot’s other projects, the acoustic folk he performs solo and the noisy rock of Clara Clara. My preference goes to his folk side and thus I prefer the end of the A side of the album, but those who like slightly loudest rock will enjoy the other tracks (I talk about sides because the album has only been released on vinyl on Clapping Music, a great french indie label). « I’m Yours » gives you a glimpse of what you can hear on the album, which is streaming in full on Bandcamp.It would have been a shame to end this french selection without french chanson: my choice is the first track off Bertrand Belin‘s freshly released new album. I didn’t get the chance to listen to it yet, but I know Hypernuit will most likely be my French-speaking album of the year. And by favorite French-speaking album of the year and don’t mean my favorite, but the only one I will buy, because there are very few French-speaking artists who can charm my English-loving ears.
